What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a 5000-year-old natural healing system originating in the ancient traditions of India. Now considered one of the leading forms of holistic medicine available in the West, Ayurveda addresses all of the factors that influence our quality of life.  Ayurvedic principles are useful as both complimentary and preventive medicine.

The principles of Ayurveda state that nothing exists in isolation, so that everything you interact with- your diet, family, work and relationships – all have an affect on your health and well being. One guiding principle of Ayurveda is that the mind and body are connected and that the mind has a profound influence over our health and well-being. Conventional Western medicine is often reactive – focused on eliminating symptoms and rarely considering a mind-body connection. Ayurveda looks at the whole body… the whole person…to identify the emotional and physical sources of dis-ease and then heal the source – not simply the symptoms. Ayurveda holds that health is more than the absence of disease; it is a dynamic state of balance and integration of body, mind and spirit.

Kay, a Chopra Center certified Vedic Master, teaches Perfect Health, a workshop developed by Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon, which is founded in the unique fusion of the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and the cutting-edge knowledge of modern medicine to create an integrated path toward health and wellbeing. According to Ayurveda, each of us inherits a unique mix of three mind/body principles which creates our specific mental and physical characteristics. When we find ourselves emotionally or physically out of balance, or experiencing a health challenge, most likely we have strayed from our true nurturing state of mind/body nourishment. In Perfect Health individuals are taught the cornerstones of Ayurveda and design a daily routine to help them bring balance, healing, and wellbeing to their lives.

"If you want to understand why a person’s body is the way it is today, look at the quality of their experiences over the past 10 years.  If you want to know what a person’s body will look like 10 years from now, look the quality of the experiences they are having today."
